My ignition to my 95 Honda Del Sol. When l start the car, the key will not stay in the on position to keep it running. l can hold it forward and it runs just fine, but as soon as l let go it stops. l had a friend of mine who is a locksmith replace the actual ignition, and the white relay on the opposite side of it, but it still will not run without holding it forward. Does anyone have any Idea as to what the problem could be?

l had the same problem with my 92 Civic hatchback.The whole ignition got replaced.Sounds like that is what needs to be done

there is an electrical switch on the back of the ignition cylinder that is moved in response to ur turning the key in the ignition cylinder. that part is called the ''ignition switch''. if the car wo not stay running in the ''Run'' position the contacts in the electrical switch r burnt out.

you can take the covers off of the steering column (between the steering wheel & the instrument panel) & see the ignition switch & harness with the covers removed.

l am sure that is ur problem.

call a honda dealer, give them your VIN. there is probably a recall on it. they will fix it for free.
