Please help! This afternoon on my way home from work, the ''check engine'' light popped on. The car is due for an oil change, and when l took it yesterday, the only kid working could not get the hood up, told me to come back. It is really cold where l live and snowed overnight the day before, so l was assuming the hood was hard to open due to the cold weather, but could it be related?

Could it have just gone on due to the fact the car needs an oil change, or some other simple reason? I am really hoping l do not need a major part! l need my car, but am afraid it will die on me orthat l will cause an accident. Please help!!

go to autozone in the morning and have them do and OBD scan and they will tell you what the problem is

l have a 99 civic as well and the light wo not turn on for an oil change, maybe since it is so cold where you live it triggred something else. go to autozone or a car parts place and they can hook up a little machine to the car to find out the problem. they do it for free and they usually can figure out the prob! good luck!

if it had anything to do wit the oil the oil light will come on

First of all it can not be related to the hood whatsoever.

Solution to the engine light:
---Pop your hood open and find your battery.
---Take off the Positive(the one with a red rubber on it) cable on the battery.
---Leave the positive cable unattached from the battery for 10 seconds, and the bolt it back on.

That should reset your ecu and turns off the engine light. If problem comes up again then it is something major.

Usually the light comes on due to an oxygen sensor or catalytic converter or something else related to emissions.

Again, as others have said, go to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts or even other auto parts stores & they will usually put a code reader on it for free to find out what the problem is. They can also reset it for you. Sometimes putting an additive in ur gas tank to clean the fuel injectors solves the problem.

If ur oil pressure light ever comes on, do not continue to drive the car.

The hood release may not be working due to the cold weather. l had a Honda that did that. The latch would freeze up & not release unless it was brought into a heated garage or l had to wait for a warmer day. When u get it open, spray it real good with WD40 or liquid wrench.
