Has anyone got some idea about the working of a VCM (variable cylinder management) engine.Its a 6 cylinder V-shaped engine, employed by Honda in Odyssey and Accord.It can be made to run in 3, 4 and all 6 cylinders arrangement as needed, for better economy offcourse.l can well understand the 3 and 6 cylinders running but how 4?
Patrick, Thanks for the explanation.So it means that it is only the valves of certain cylinders that by opening and closing make it activated or deactivated.Just would you clarify that in case when we have a cylinder deactivated (its inlet and exhaust valves are closed), would piston be running in that cylinder.If it is so, do not you think this dry running will harm the cylinder walls, piston and piston rings.Thanks

l want to mention as a side note, in the real world of driving, my 08 odyssey EX without VCM gets as good of mpgs as my friend is van that has the VCM.
