Why did my manual Honda Prelude VETC slip on snow badly

l used the second gear and drove at around 15 mph, but it still slipped like crazy. It happened three times in the last two days. l did not pump the brake. l was just driving in the lane and it just slipped. l almost hitted a police car when it slipped. The officer stopped his car and everybody stopped and watching me steering back. What a shame! Can anyone please give me any hint?
l am sorry, l am not good at English. The car slid, not the transmission slipped.

The car slipped, or your transmission slipped?

If you meant your car, you meant it slid. Not slipped.

And that happened, because you have a light weight, fwd car. And you likely need new tires. No idea why you would mention pumping your brakes. You have ABS. Or at least, you should.

If your tranny slipped, it is because something is wrong with your clutch.

because your car is made for racing not driving on snow and your tires my be as well

do you have high performance summer tires? (low profile yokos or toyos)

l had a 94 civic VTEC stick, and just kept my stock rims and got snow tires on 2 of them for the front. so l really suggest that, it handled better than most 4x4 trucks in the snow!

in a front wheel drive car, do not pump the brakes, or slam em, hit the gas dude and it will get you out of a big problem.

or just go slow altogether

There can be a lot of reasons.

1. Front wheel drive cars generally slip more on wet grounds than AWD or RWD cars. Investing in some tire chains will help.

2. Manual transmission. It depends on the driver ; some drivers usually make many mistakes with a stick shift.

Mistakes :

1. Rev to higher than 3,000 rpm (higher than daily driving).
2. Let the clutch in too slowly. This will make ur tires spin.
3. Accidentally locking ur wheels. Some people accidentally lock their wheels by ''double-clutching'' (as they call it when they quickly re-engage the clutch when they feel a loss of traction).

*edit* : there is also a different form of double clutching when you're driving as a measure for a healthier transmission, but l was not talking about that.

So it could either be you, or cause ur car is harder to maneuver on slippery roads. Either way, all cars will slip without proper traction control or chains. So get them!

Sounds like you need new tires. You need deep tire treads in snow. Winter tires are the best for snow, but even a new pair of all season tires should help. If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow and ice, go for the winter tires.
